Blue light blocking glasses are everywhere, from your local pharmacy to influencer product lines. But do they actually help?
The Claimed Benefits
Fans of blue light glasses claim they:
• Improve sleep quality by reducing melatonin suppression
• Reduce digital eye strain and headaches
• Boost focus and screen comfort
They’ve become especially popular among people who work on screens late into the evening.
What the Science Says
The science supports some of the claims, particularly when it comes to circadian rhythm regulation. Blue light, especially from screens, can delay melatonin production if viewed too close to bedtime. Blocking blue light may support sleep timing and quality.
However, studies on eye strain and long-term visual comfort are mixed. A 2021 systematic review in Chronobiology International found blue light glasses can be helpful for improving sleep but aren’t a cure-all for screen-related issues.
The Chiropractic Connection
While glasses may help, the real issue often lies in posture and screen habits. Poor ergonomic setup and forward head posture increase tension through the spine, especially the cervical region. That strain often leads to headaches, neck pain, and fatigue, symptoms people sometimes misattribute to “screen glare” alone.
Chiropractic care focuses on spinal alignment and nervous system regulation. Combined with better screen habits, posture tips, and movement breaks, this creates a far more sustainable fix than just putting on glasses.
